task-cloning

We are pleased to announce a new Kitovu feature, “Copying Tasks”. This allows you to make an exact copy of an existing task.

This is a simple but very useful feature. Several customers have requested a feature that allows them to copy similar tasks which they might do over and over again. Copying Tasks provides this functionality and means similar tasks can be created in one click, without having to manually add all the same properties into a new task.

There is a combination of elements within the task which ARE copied and ARE NOT copied to the new task. Below is a breakdown of those elements. We think we have the balance right in terms of what is and what is not copied but let us know if you have any thoughts about this.

What is copied

  • Task Title (prefaced with “Copy of”)
  • Task Description
  • Assignee
  • Client and or Project
  • Checklists
  • Labels
  • Followers
  • Important Flag
  • Private Status

What isn’t copied

  • Due Date from the original task, you can set a new due date.
  • Attachments – images or files from the original task.
  • Starred task option – you may star the new copy of the task if you choose.
  • Good Job option – nothing has been done on the new task yet so there is no reason to select this yet.
  • Comments – this is a new task so the user will want to add new comments.

How and where do I copy the task?
Simply go to the task details page of any task. In the toolbar you will see an arrow for “task actions”. This is the last toolbar item on the very right. You will see the “Make a copy” link in the dropdown, simply click on this link, the original task will be copied, a new task will be created and you will be redirected to the new task’s page.

We hope you like this handy little feature. We have a number of new smaller features we will be releasing in the next couple of weeks as well as some big exciting features just around the corner – so stay tuned! Its all happening at Kitovu right now. As always, email us with any suggestions you might have.
