Your task descriptions and comments in todo.vu can now be clearer and more detailed than ever thanks to our latest update.

We’ve improved the text editor to allow you to upload and display images and files directly within the text sections of todo.vu tasks – both in the description and comments.

This means when you want to attach files to a task or your comments, they can appear inline with your text, making it much easier to reference images, files and more. That’s why we call these ‘inline images’, even though they don’t have to be images and can be various file types.

This is a significant improvement over our previous set-up, where attached files were displayed separately in the comment stream after being uploaded.

Read on to learn more.

Where to use inline images

Inline images can only be used within:

  • a task’s description section, or
  • a comment on a task.

This is demonstrated in the following screenshot of a task where an uploaded image is displayed in both the description and first comment:

How to use inline images

See below for the two ways to insert inline images (and documents) to your todo.vu task or comment. You can still also use the existing method for uploading attachments to tasks.

1) Drag and drop

You can use your mouse to drag and drop a file attachment onto the task.

Your task must be open. As you drag the attachment over the open task, you’ll see a highlighted ‘dropzone’ in the description section and comment editor, in either of which you can choose to drop your file.

The file will drop on a new line at the last position of your cursor. This allows you to place your file exactly where you want it to appear in your text, such as after a specific paragraph.

Note

When you attach an image file (jpeg etc.), it will display that image in a thumbnail view. Other file types (pdf etc.) provide a preview or a standard file link.

2) Cut/copy and paste

You can use your mouse or your keyboard to cut/copy any image, and then paste that image into the text editor.

Use the paperclip icon or drag and drop area (previous method)

You’ll still have the option to upload attachments independently as per our previous set-up – that is, with the paperclip icon beneath the comment editor or by dragging and dropping your attachment into the “drop files here” field.

Manage inline images

The following settings help you manage your inline images once uploaded to a task:

Preview and download: (Images only)

To view an image attachment in full screen and download it, simply hover your mouse over the image thumbnail and click the square icon that appears in the top right corner.

Download: (Files only)

To download a file attachment, click the arrow icon on the right side of the inline file preview.

Resize thumbnail/file preview:

To make the image thumbnail or file preview smaller, select it and click the square icon that appears to the left. You can choose from two additional sizes, as the thumbnail/preview is set to its largest size by default.

Delete:

To delete an attachment, select the image thumbnail/file preview and hit ‘Delete/Backspace’ on your keyboard.
